A Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS), recomenda a amamentação exclusiva até os 6 meses de idade. O leite materno é um alimento, portanto, ideal para subsidiar integralmente o crescimento neonatal durante esse período. Caracterizado por uma composição rica em lipídios, em destaque o colesterol, que possuem impactos diretos desde os primeiros anos até a vida adulta. Dada notabilidade, o seguinte estudo traz uma revisão bibliográfica que visa compreender e ressaltar a importância da amamentação na regulação do metabolismo colesterolêmico e citar os problemas envoltos nesse processo. A amamentação foi descrita como uma redutora de LDL e acrescentadora de HDL remetendo a um LDL/HDL ratio menor em bebes exclusivamente amamentados. Essa transição metabólica fisiológica, em longo prazo, influência a composição colesterolêmica adulta e seu fortalecimento metabólico, a redução do risco de hipercolesterolemia e a ocorrência de DCV em adultos.
